Wednesday 22nd January 12pm - 3.30pm
Wax carving is a fantastic skill to learn if you'd like to make more adventurous pieces in metal. The technique lends itself to both organic or geometric designs.
Day 1:
The process of wax carving and casting will be explained. Then, your jewellery creation starts with the wax piece being carved and sculpted. Special wax carving tools are used for this.
After the first session, the waxes will be send away to a casting company where your waxes will be cast in silver.
Day 2:
The raw silver castings will be cleaned and any jewellery findings will be attached.
Finally the pieces will be finished.  This will usually means being polished, but various finishes can be achieved including oxidising.
Please Note: The course fee includes all materials except for your castings. The cost of the castings will vary depending on the weight and silver price but a simple ring would cost about £20.
You will learn:
  • Basic designing for wax carving
  • Qualities and properties of different forms of wax
  • Using wax carving tools to achieve your designs
  • Making finished wax carved masters ready to cast
  • Cleaning and finishing skills in silver
